A New Vision for New Cross - Area Framework and Station Opportunity Study
Results updated 26 Jul 2019
The New Cross area framework and station opportunity study were approved by a meeting of the Mayor and Cabinet in April 2019. This means that:
- it will form part of the evidence base for the new Lewisham Local Plan
- we will progress it to full supplementary planning document status
- the document will go to a full Council meeting to keep them informed.

Overview
The proposed Bakerloo Line extension could bring huge benefits to the New Cross area. Through this consultation page/material you can find out how we are planning ahead so that we can take advantage of the benefits a new station interchange might bring to the area, and how you can get involved.
LB Lewisham have collaborated with Transport for London (TfL) and the Greater London Authority (GLA) to appoint architects 5th Studio and urban designers We Made That to develop a practical vision for the area. Together we want to use the public consultation process to:
- Think about how we maximise the benefits to New Cross Gate station and the immediate surrounding area – this is called a Station Opportunity Study
- Think about the benefits the Bakerloo Line extension could bring to the wider area around New Cross – extending as far as Kender Street, Surrey Canal Road, Rolt Street and Deptford High Street. This is called the New Cross Gate Area Framework
This document will form part of the evidence base for the new LB Lewisham Local Plan, inform TfL’s business case for the Bakerloo Line Extension, set a trajectory for proposals on key sites within the study area, and support funding bids for projects, including improvements to the A2/New Cross Road.
This will be the final round of public consultation, and will focus on a final consultation draft of the New Cross Area Framework and Station Opportunity Study.

Why your views matter
Local residents, businesses and other stakeholders have a deep knowledge and understanding of New Cross and Deptford which we are keen to utilise. Previous rounds of consultation in late 2017 and early 2018 have been invaluable in shaping initial ideas on how New Cross might evolve in the future.
Please give us your feedback on the draft Area Framework and Station Opportunity Study by filling in the short online survey.
The feedback we receive will inform the final New Cross Area Framework and Station Opportunity Study document, which we hope to publish during next year.
