Council Tax Reduction Scheme 2019- 2020
Overview
In April 2013 the Goverment abolished the national Council Tax Reduction Scheme, which helped those on low income to pay their Council Tax. In place of Council Tax Benefit each council had to introduce its own Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme and agree it each year. The Goverment has reduced the funding for the Scheme each year.
Following a detailed consultation in 2013 the Council introduced a Scheme that was based on the previous national Scheme but required people of working age to make a minimum contribution to cover the shortfall in goverment funding. Following consultations each year the Council has continued this arrangment.
We want to consult you again on the options to deliver the Council Tax Reduction Scheme for 2019- 2020.
