South Circular Road Consultation
Overview
We are working with Transport for London (TfL) to transform Catford Town Centre, improve transport and create a greener town centre.
TfL are currently consulting on proposals to re-route part of the South Circular (Catford Road) to create a largely car-free town centre. The road would be moved to a new position south of Laurence House, on the site of the Canadian Avenue car park. Improvements to walking and cycling infrastructure are also proposed, with new segregated cycle lanes, wider pavements and pedestrian crossings. These changes aim to make it easier for people to walk, cycle and use public transport, as well as creating new areas of public space and enabling improvements to the public realm, with new trees and planting.
The re-routing of the South Circular is an important part of the Council’s wider vision for the future of Catford, set out in the Catford Town Centre Framework. Shaped by over 3,000 comments from local residents, the Catford Town Centre Framework sets out a shared vision for the future of Catford over the coming decades. It aims to create the greenest town centre in London, as well as delivering much-needed homes, more space for shops and businesses, improved public space and better walking and cycling infrastructure.
