Business Ratepayer Consultation - 2026/27
Overview
Business rates tax is a tax that is levied on non-domestic properties, such as shops, offices, and warehouses. It is one of the key elements of local government financing. Here in the Borough of Lewisham, business rates help to fund local services including social care for adults and children, libraries, street lighting, waste collection and public parks.
As a local business owner, we are keen to hear from you and would encourage you to share your thoughts via our online consultation. In the ‘Related Documents’ section at the bottom of this page you’ll find a consultation document which sets out the context, pressures, and spending forecasts for Lewisham Council in 2026/27. Your feedback will remain confidential.
Also at the bottom of this page are links to supporting documents, including our Corporate Strategy, which is referenced in the survey, the government’s guidance on the upcoming reset of the Business Rates Retention System, and Lewisham Council’s Business Rates 2025/26 information page.
